I'm here for the cake... wedding cake, that is!

My last cake related post was about the cutest cake I've ever made, so I thought I'd follow it with the BIGGEST cake I've ever made.

This is the wedding cake I made for my little sister's wedding.

The stakes were high on this one.
Primarily because it's a wedding cake, but also because I started it at 8PM the night before the wedding.

Yup... it was a procrastinators dream!
Although, in my defense, I spent the day prior to the wedding decorating the lodge for the reception, attending the rehearsal, and making a cake more than a day before the wedding just seems gross to me!

The cakes were baked for me by my lovely assistants... aka my mom and Courtney.  So, all I had to do was level, fill, stack the layers, dirty ice, frost with perfectly smooth buttercream, stack the 3 cakes, add chocolate fondant borders, pearl spray and place the floral arrangements.  That's all.

Brendon was my assistant from 8 o'clock until about midnight. I could not have done it without him.  He lifted all these very heavy cakes for me, cleaned up my trail of buttercream that stretched across the entire caterers kitchen at the lodge, ran out for more supplies when I ran out of icing... at 10:30pm... and he was just fun company to keep me focused.

This is what the cakes looked like at midnight. Nighty, night cakes... please still look good in the morning!

Good morning cakes! You're looking pretty good.  Just a few more tweaks and you'll be great.

The finished product----The first wedding cake I've ever made!

Congratulations, Courtney and Michael!

As if a wedding cake weren't enough... I made a few fun gifts for the new Mr & Mrs.

They used this mailbox on the gift table to hold all the wedding cards. And, they'll have a new mailbox for their house!

The wrapped boxes are full of glasses and the frame was handmade for the Becks.

I used my Silhouette to design and cut the monogram.  I saw the idea on you guessed it, Pinterest!   I applied the vinyl to a clear plastic mat that I found in the sewing section of Hobby Lobby.  I'm not sure what it's real purpose is, but it worked perfectly for my project.

Then, I put the plastic piece in the frame followed by several scrapbook papers. There were lots of pages that they can swap out for different holidays and everyday display.
