Can you guess what I'm going to be making tonight?
A friend of mine makes flight suit purses and I've been drooling over them for months! Tara's bags are the best I've ever seen {and I'm not just saying that to be nice}. She doesn't just make the bag. She includes embellishments, zipper pull charms, appliques, hand stitching, inside pockets and great fabrics. Best of all, she's not open for business! I love that she makes bags for fun and the money that she's given for making bags goes directly to charity.
Two weeks ago, she taught me her secrets. We talked for an hour and a half, but could have easily continued for hours. As you can see in the picture below, I was taking notes the entire time we were on the phone! They are not pretty, but I know her tips will help me create an awesome bag of my own!
Now, I just have to start cutting. I'm not sure why, but making the first cuts on the flight suit terrifies me! Maybe it's because I've never made a bag before or it could be that I only have one flight suit to work with... either way.... I've decided that tonight is the night! As soon as I hit publish on this post, my scissors and I are getting to work. I'm so nervous, but excited to make a bag of my own!
I am dying to see the end result. When I was in H.S. we used to make bags or mini skirts out of our old jeans!
ReplyDeleteWe are really looking forward to seeing you, Owen and your folks next Monday and maybe I'll get a chance to pick your brain about my bead/swarovski crystal & finding storage problem. Have spent a fortune on 3 storage cases but this is getting old. I need something that is portable, where I can see the items inside and something that is not too deep to accommodate my arthritic fingers.
Did I share a blog about these bags within the last week?
ReplyDeleteNo, but I'd love to see it--send me the link!
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I have a flight suit purse, but if you master it, maybe you could figure out how to manage a flight suit diaper bag... :)
ReplyDeleteI am excited to learn more...I am trying to make one for a dear friend but it seems any hints at how to do them are closely guarded. I would love some guidance!!
ReplyDeleteAny chance of you posting a tutorial when you've finished? I have a flightsuit or two that are unservicable and just sitting in a back closet, but am terrified to just start hacking away at them without a pattern or tutorial of some sort!
ReplyDeleteman i would love a tutorial too... i'm dreading cutting DHs flight suit up and i can't afford to have one made custom...any help would be much appreciated!
