Now Taking Reservations!

No, seriously --- Come see us!

We have lived in our Colorado home for a full year. {How did that happen?!} And, after having a few overnight guests brave Owen's old cramped set of twin sized trundle beds, (You know who you are... thank you for not leaving during the night and checking in to the Fairfield Inn across the street making the best of it.) We decided that it was time to make a more welcoming space for guests in our home!

I knew that once we sold the twin size bedroom set, we'd have one extremely blank canvas and lots of brainstorming to do! I went to my favorite place to brainstorm... Target! I bribed Luke with an individual carton of Goldfish, Dollar Spot toys and unlimited iPhone playtime (thanks for the wifi Target!) while I wandered the aisles.  That's when I found the accent pillows -- talk about working backwards!  Most people start with ideas about colors, maybe some furniture picked out, a mattress even, nope -- I start with pillows!

I brought the accent pillows home and went to my next favorite place for ideas... Fixer Upper!   30 Seconds into my favorite show and what did I see?  The accent pillow --- MY accent pillows!! It was the Target accent pillow that was in my hand.  Joanna Gaines and I have the same taste! And, she shops at Target... so cool.  After that, making the bed was simple ... copycat time!  White Farmhouse Headboard, white pinch pleat comforter, three tan accent pillows, and an extra blanket at the foot of the bed.  Why reinvent the wheel, right?!

The Farmhouse Headboard was Brendon's handiwork! We followed the Ana White Farmhouse Headboard Plans and learned valuable lessons about making sure the wood you choose is straight.
*Cough, cough*
Anyway, after building the headboard, we caulked the fool out of that thing and BAM!

It actually looked like the picture from the example.  We recruited the cutest little painter in town and he painted the entire frame white.

I finished it up with 3 coats of Polycrylic.  I've found that brush on Minwax Polycrylic is THE BEST way to protect the white finish because it won't turn yellow overtime.

With all the white on the bed and cream colored curtains, I knew I needed to add in a little more color.  I went on the hunt for teal nightstands and found a great set!

The wall opposite the bed needed a cute little shelf and more turquoise decorations to tie in with the nightstands.  I've had the shelf since college, but all the other items are new. The milk jar vases are from World Market.  The ball/arrow thingy is a clearance shelf find from Michaels. And, Hobby Lobby came through in a big way with the decorative ball, picture frame, knob wall hanger, turquoise H and the chalkboard.   I bought the lamps there too -- because you can't beat their 50% weeks!

Alicia came to visit while I was in the process of redoing the room, so I did what any little sister would do {I showed her all my cute ideas and I made her sleep in the twin bed hahaha!} Then, I asked her to make the chalk drawing for the Welcome sign.  Plus, she designed and created the awesome Be Our Guest sign!
She's such a good big sister!

His and Hers nightstands

They each have a burlap covered box with bathroom supplies, just incase you get here and realize you forgot to pack something!  I looked for two vases that would complement each other, yet wanted one that was more feminine and a masculine vase. (ha -- A masculine vase. It that an oxymoron or what?!) I'm totally into succulents right now. The colors are great and they're easy to grow -- just kidding, they're fake.
But they look pretty and they'll never die!

The rolling cart is a Maskog from Ikea.  The color totally matches, but the storage function is the best part because our guests use the hall bathroom, which is also the boys bathroom and it has very little cabinet/counter space. And, let's face it -- you don't want Owen and Luke playing with your toothbrushes!

I loved working to make the space homey and really hope that our guests love visiting us!
Who's coming to visit next!?!

I'm back... Because the Super Bowl is on!

Super Bowl XLIX is on right now!
And, that means one thing... I've got lots of time on my hands.
I'm a good sport.  I'll eat veggies with ranch and tune in for the commercials, but blogging sounds like a lot more fun!  Plus, we've made it past the halftime show, so I'm sure some of you are looking online for some new reading material, too.

I'll come back later to give you an update on what we've been up to for the past 6 months.  Today, I'll just show you my Super Bowl Sunday project.  It's a Super Simple Spring Wreath!
{Did you pick up on that?!}

6 Months ago, Brendon surprised me with this awesome mirrored cabinet.  I LOVED it!
I just didn't know how to decorate it.  This week, I picked up a chair from my friend that matches perfectly and really fits the space.

Last night, I decided to start shopping around the house to find items that would pull a little more color into the dining room.  I stole a pillow from our bed and the yellow lampshade from our bedroom side table. I found an old vase we've had tucked away in the Harry Potter Closet and garage sale votive holder. They all looked great together -- Just one thing was missing.  A wreath!!

I scrounged through my craft closet and found a grapevine wreath and 9 inches of ribbon {Yes, I keep scraps of everything!}.  All that I needed was a little greenery.  So, I conned the guys into going to Michaels this morning to buy some artificial flowers and ended up finding these adorable burlap flowers too.  Everything was on sale so the wreath only cost me $5.50!!!!

Making the wreath took about 10 minutes... no really, it did!

Step 1: Bend the artificial flower bouquet in half so it would cover almost half of the wreath.

Step 2: Shove the stem into the grapevine wreath and cover with hot glue.

Step 3: Wrap the ribbon and hot glue in place.

Step 4: Use 1/2 a hot glue gun stick to attach the burlap flowers... Those babies aren't going anywhere!

Step 5:  Cut a "leaf" out of the burlap ribbon. Pinch in half and glue in the empty spaces.

Done!

By the end of the 10 minutes, I'd used every-single-bit of my supplies. This is all I have left - scraps and nub of hot glue.

It turned out better than I even imagined and the dining room looks so cozy now!

Luke @ 11 Months Old

Just look at those eyes... He's working on something BIG!  (And it wasn't anything big in his diaper)  Luke's big move to ring in his 11th month was taking his 1st STEP!!!

Just 3 weeks ago, Luke stood by himself for the first time.  Then, he took one small step on his own! I can't believe how strong he is.

It must be all the time he spends working out with Daddy!

Maybe he's so strong because of all the food he's cooking on the grill.

He loves to eat and grunts at us when he sees us eating. He especially enjoys when we share our food with him.

He learned how to drink from a straw this month!  We gave him a baby food pouch and he immediately started sucking. That skill transitioned into drinking water from a straw --- wish I would have thought of that technique earlier!

He's very vocal about food and uses his signs the most when talking about food.  He can say more please, all done, water, milk, and eat.  He has also been known to sign all done when he's hot and ready to go inside or tired of riding in the car or when he's just had enough of the activity we're doing!

One thing he can't get enough of --- Daddy and Big Brother! He even enjoyed watching them play water balloon toss at Brendon's work picnic.

This month, Owen had a few big accomplishments too.  The biggest was finishing his first year of preschool!

We celebrated the first day of summer by playing at Owen's favorite park and splash pad! He chose his outfit (if you couldn't tell).  What's the opposite of a school uniform?! Wearing a character on every piece of clothes --- Thomas hat, Monsters University shirt, Pixar characters on his swim trunks,  and monster socks! It was a good day.

Now that preschool, MOPS, and bible study are finished for the year, we've been spending more time at home and going to the gym.  Both boys love playing in the back yard pool and eating lunch on the back patio.

Summer nights have been full of grilling and eating dinner outside!

Brendon and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary on June 9th! We ate dinner at Buddy V's and dessert from Carlos Bakery.

Luke and Owen have been playing really well together lately.  Luke has always been interested in what Owen is doing, but now he's able to crawl over and be a part of the fun.

Owen's found new ways to hide from Luke when he needs a break.  He plays Lego at the table or trains behind the baby gate.  I wasn't very excited about having a huge baby gate in the front of the house (but you gotta do whatcha gotta do to keep Luke The Climber safe) and it's made managing the toy war much easier!

Speaking of The Climber... Luke will climb anything and everything! I turned my head at playgroup and seconds later found him like this--- halfway up the stroller.  Can you guess what he was climbing up to get?  .... The snack tower!

He doesn't always need to climb up stairs, strollers, packages of drinks, or the dishwasher... he's also perfectly happy climbing IN cabinets!

The boys and I have been going swimming a lot at our friend's pool or going with Daddy to the pool at the Y on the weekends.  Swimming days = 2 boys napping  Whoohoo!

The boys' favorite time of day is when Daddy comes home! They both want to wrestle with him.  Luke's internal timer starts going off around 5:15pm and he spends the rest of the day checking on Daddy and calling out "dada" as loud as he can.

We all missed Brendon during our trip to Shreveport, but had so much fun with Sara Beth, Tristen and their families!

Traveling by myself with both boys was actually easier than I expected.  I was quite thankful for this little invention.  The "Child Protection Seat" was a real lifesaver!

The Ergo was my saving grace while walking around the airport (hauling the carryon, kids, snacks, and all the other flying necessities). I held Luke in the carrier during the flight too.  He was the in-flight entertainment the entire flight to Shreveport.  He was supposed to be sitting in my lap, but he was pretty much dancing/climbing/escaping every chance he had.  He also loved playing peek-a-boo with the lady behind us!  Thankfully, the ride home was during nap time so he was asleep almost the entire time!

It was so much fun for me to spend time with Brandi and Diana.  We kept thinking "Wow! We have 7 kids!"  We've come a long way from being 3 new mommas with one baby each.

And, look how happy they all are!!
hahaha
No really, the trip was amazing and all the kids played together really well.  Getting a picture to prove it was almost impossible!
