That smile says it all... We have one very happy boy!
This month we've settled into our new normal routine. Luke is spending more time sleeping at night and is awake longer during the day. I really appreciate that he's only waking up once each night. He usually goes to bed around 7:30 p.m. and sleeps until 2:30 or 3:00 a.m. I think he wakes up at night just because he likes the alone time with Mommy and Daddy. He only stays awake long enough for Daddy to change his diaper and then I feed him, but he only nurses for a new minutes before he falls back asleep. We're hoping that means that he's almost ready to sleep through the night --- fingers crossed! During the day, he takes short naps in the morning, usually in the car while we drive Owen to school or in the Ergo carrier while we're at the park or running errands. Then, he takes a nice long afternoon nap. Just a few days ago, I set him down on our bed and took the sweetest picture of him during his nap.
When he's not swaddled, he likes to sleep on his side and because of that his hair has started to thin. Now, he has a light ring of missing hair around his head. Owen never had any hair to lose so it's been fun for us to watch Luke's hair change from a full head of newborn hair to a patchy cropping of hair with the "male pattern baldness" forehead and the balding halo. The hair he has left is a color that is a lot like mine, sort of a light brown with a little bit of red.
He's made three trips to see the doctor this month.
The first trip was to see the Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor. He didn't pass his hearing test while in the hospital, so they referred us to see an audiologist. It took us longer to drive to the doctor's office in Henderson than it did to retake the hearing test and he passed with flying colors! I really wasn't worried about this one because responds to our voices and loud noises.
His second visit to the doctor was for his 2 Month Well-Baby check up. Everything went perfectly at this appointment. He weighs 9 pounds 13 ounces and is 22.5 inches long, which puts him around the 25th percentile for weight and 50th for length. He's feels so much bigger to us. His little cheeks are starting to get plump and he's starting to fill in the 3 month clothes. They'll still fit for quite a while, but the newborn clothes are almost completely phased out of his closet.
Yesterday we went for his 3rd doctor visit of the month. He got is 2 month shots and was not happy about it! He got the shots, did the silent cry that breaks your heart, kicked the nurse, and then screamed for the rest of the day. If he wasn't being held or fed then he was crying. Those shots are so not fun!
He would have much rather been doing any of his favorite activities, which include...
Going on picnics,
Watching it rain {and he saw a double rainbow while looking out our back door}.
He's a big fan of SportCenter, just like Daddy!
And, going to playdates with friends.
We've also done a little FaceTime chatting with Daddy. He's gone on 2 TDYs this month. The first trip was a week long and it was lot of work for Mommy! Each night I would prepare for the next day, set out our clothes, fill the diaper bag and backpack, and set out our breakfast bowls. All day I was think of the next doctors appointment or activity that we were scheduled to go to. I was very grateful that the second TDY was only 3 days. We miss Daddy while he's gone and I'm sitting here counting the minutes until B gets home tonight.
Luke gave Daddy a big smile while he wore his Buccaneers shirt. Maybe he was laughing at the team, but either way it was adorable!
Along with his smile, he's learned that he can stick his tongue out. His face lights up when he sees us stick our tongue out or make the L sound. This video of his cute little face is too sweet not to share. He really does light up when we talk to him. Clicking your tongue or saying the L sound can dry his tears. Just the other day he was crying and smiling at the same time. He just couldn't keep the smile off his face when I stuck my tongue out at him.
He's also a big fan of Daddy's singing. He coos and aahs at us while we talk or sing to him.
It's been another month of firsts for Luke (and the rest of the family, too!) --- for a lot of them there aren't any photos. We were having too much fun to take out the camera.
We drove up to Mt. Charleston to have a picnic. The leaves are beginning to change colors and the weather is amazing! It actually felt like fall when we all had on long pants and long sleeved shirts. We saw deer and bees (which interrupted the picnic). Owen's favorite part was seeing a helicopter dropping mulch down in one of the areas that was burnt a few months ago.
Big Brother got his first big boy bike! He earned it by getting all his stickers for good behavior at school. We've spent lots of time sitting outside, enjoying the beautiful weather, and watching Owen ride in circles.
He is so adorable guys! What a blessing! And he looks just like big brother! Love the monthly pics they are so cute! I know blogging takes a lot of time but I sure do love that you do it so we can see our friends!
